Dominique Evans
I am a second year degree student at Grimsby School Of Art following several years of being involved in performing arts and fashion. I have recently begun to work with mixed media to create assemblage art which incorporates elements of textiles, painting, drawing and sculpture. My work revolves around the use of found objects with many alterations and distortions. I use anything I can get my hands on and toys are something I love to work with as the distortion of innocence fascinates me. I work with shadow boxes but my work extends beyond the box boundaries. My plan is to push the objects and materials that I use as far as I can. My main influence is a brilliant woman called Emilie Autumn who has dealt with living with bi-polar disorder and who uses her work to expose the flaws in the treatment of the mentally ill. The main theme in my work is psychology and the fact that sometimes it treats people based on labels and treats symptoms rather than the underlying causes.
