Rikki Bentley
My work as an artist has developed massively over the last 3 years of education. I tend to stick with drawing mediums although recently I have been expanding into painting, printmaking and sculpture. I love the idea of mixed media as it has no restraints; I don’t like the idea of being assigned or confined to one particular art-form. Being able to collaborate between a selection of different media is something that I find really interesting, generating one idea through this is what interests me most.
My work is developing all the time as I move between subjects and media. I enjoy creating something that asks a question as well as being aesthetically pleasing. I like to consider my works being more conceptual as I like having an undertone to the meanings behind the initial image.
The materials that I most commonly use are print, paint and ink, although I do like using almost anything. My style is somewhat figurative as I like exploring different ways to interpret ideas and meanings. The concepts behind my work change from piece to piece. My themes tend to be around religion, politics, capitalism, science. I find these to be the biggest questions in life that everyone has a opinion on but not always spoken of. I show my opinion and views through my artwork, using rather controversial imagery to question this and provoke a reaction or thought.
My ambitions are to hopefully graduate with honors and then go onto my master’s degree. Once I have obtained these qualifications I would like to continue to be a full time tattoo artist as well as a freelance painter and drawer/illustrator, mainly working upon portraiture and figurative imagery.
My influences come from everywhere. I like to think that I can take queues from almost anything. I think that tattoo art and culture tends to influence me most as it is something that I have been interested in for as long as I can remember. I think I take influence from personal matters in life and things that happen around me.
